The Fable of Wind, Waves & Sun

Ocean had enough. Wind had gone too far.

Puffed up in response to this show of force so early in the morning, Waves are jealous for Sun. It’s time for her show, but Wind won’t allow it, insisting that Clouds & Rain blow sideways, just to cause a ruckus.

Lightning and Thunder are not interested in this early morning ego trip that Wind is on. Though Wind successfully coerced Rain to join, they roll their eyes. They know how powerful they are and prefer the cover of night, so Lightning can dazzle the sky and Thunder can emphasize each moment: a formidable pair.

Seeing the lack of interest or envy among his peers, Wind slows down. Rain decides it’s not as much fun letting Wind push him around, and considers heading back home.

So Sun attempted to emerge to take back her rightful control on the dawn, and Waves continued to agitate on her behalf. A sign of solidarity with Sun as they crashed into rocks and foamed at the mouth, challenging Wind to retreat.

Wind decides for one last push and poke and prod, unhappy he is not looked forward to or admired like Sun. He covers her and bullies Rain into one more sideways spectacle.

Wind doesn’t realize how important he is.

He doesn’t need to steal Sun’s moment, just to have his own. There is a sailboat who needs Wind to move. A bird who can fly farther, when Wind is at his back. Wind keeps bugs from from taking over flowers.

Wind doesn’t need to steal the morning to be important.

If he chooses his moments without envy, he will be valued and appreciated. He will be noticed and wanted. He will be prayed for and requested.

Wind would be best if he chose to be a partner.

  • Bring the breeze when Sun is hot.
  • Move the clouds away from the horizon, so Waves can reflect the colors at dusk.
  • Move the clouds over the plants so they do not wither.
  • And invite Rain when Ground is dry.

The Creator likes pairs. He designed it that way.

Lighting and Thunder are symbiotic showmen. Waves has Moon to guide its steps. Sun wants Wind to be her balance. Rain needs Wind to channel his outbursts.

Wind’s disrespect misses opportunity for greatness & community.

Wind’s jealousy stifles who he could be.

Wind needs others to be his best.

Tomorrow we will see.
